AD User and Group Restore Webcast -- Its not as easy as you think.

If you haven't installed a third-party tool like Quest AD Recovery Manager to automate the restoration process, any restoration of user and group objects in Active Directory can be a less than trivial task. This problem is especially so if your domain is still at Windows 2000 or you haven't upgraded to Windows 2003 SP1.

The difficulty happens because of how AD stores the linkages from a user object and its relative group memberships. Once you authoritatively restore the user object, you then need to do a separate process to restore those back links.

Justin Turner put together a webcast (registration required) and posted a link to it on his blog. This webcast has a good explanation of the steps to restore these objects if they've been accidentally or maliciously deleted.
