TechEd Announcement: Katmai becomes SQL Server 2008

It appears like 2008 will be for servers what 2007 was for desktops. The new version of SQL, code named "Katmai", that's been in development for a long, long time will be released next year as SQL Server 2008.

So far over 32,000 people have registered for the beta program with over 4,000 bugs identified. You can download the June CTP and join the effort...

...to find and fix the bugs before it comes out at:

Also, a number of on-line events on SQL Server 2008 are scheduled in June. Any of these webcasts can be accessed from:

Webchat with the SQL Product team
SQL Server product team wants to listen and help answer your questions about the recent SQL Server 2008 June CTP. Here is your opportunity to chat with the team directly and get your questions answered. This is happening on Monday, Jun 11th at 11AM PST. Add event to your Outlook calendar

Analysis Services - Dimension Design
This is the first of the 6 technical Live meeting series we have planned for you. In this session you will hear directly from Robert Zare who leads this improvement team. AS-Dimension Design enhances UI for creating and editing dimensions to guide users toward designs that follow best practices.

Change Data Capture
This is the 2nd technical Live meeting session we have planned for you. You will hear from Gopal Ashok who leads this improvement team. Change Data Capture (CDC) is a generic component that will track database changes asynchronously and expose the changes through a relational interface which can be consumed easily.

Star Join Query Optimizations
This is the 3rd technical Live meeting session we have planned for you. For improved query performance of common data warehouse scenarios, Star Join Query optimizations reduce query response time by recognizing data warehouse join patterns. Learn more about this improvement by attending the Live meeting.

Table Valued Parameters
This is the 4th technical Live meeting session we have planned for you. Table valued parameter will provide an easier way to define a table type as well as allow applications to create, populate and pass table structured parameters to stored procedures and functions. Learn more about this improvement by attending the Live meeting.

Declarative Management Framework
This is the 5th technical Live meeting session we have planned for you. A new policy-based management framework for the SQL Server Database Engine that ensures compliance with policies for system configuration. It prevents/monitors changes to the system by authoring policies for the desired configuration. It also reduces total cost of ownership by simplifying administration tasks. Learn more about this improvement by attending the Live meeting.

MERGESQL Statement
This is the last technical Live meeting session we have planned for you in June. Common data warehouse scenarios require developers to either insert information or update information. SQL Server 2008 will provide new statements within the SQL language to enable developers to provide this functionality with a single statement. Learn more about this improvement by attending the Live meeting.
