RES Software White Paper Repository

The guys over at RES Software alerted me to a new web site they've set up as a repository for white papers and other collateral about their PowerFuse and Wisdom products. Right now the site has just a few white papers and case studies, but they plan to start adding more as time goes on.

I've had the opportunity to see and work with RES Software's PowerFuse product on a few occasions and I really like how the product breaks down the daily tasks of the systems administrator into manageable chunks. You can do some very careful desktop lockdown and customization tasks with this tool and never touch a scripting language. What's especially interesting about how their product does the customization is that it really allows for roaming users to keep their desktop settings as they move from machine to machine or local machine to Citrix session, etc.

In the white paper titled "Virtualized User Workspace Management for Windows Environments" I found this quote that describes their software perfectly...

RES PowerFuse abstracts and virtualizes the user workspaces from the physical devices and provides IT personnel with the ability to centrally manage and configure user workspaces through its GUI-based unified console and database approach, all accomplished without scripting or custom policies. With RES PowerFuse, IT professionals can define and control user workspace regardless of application delivery or deployment methodology (local PC, server-based computing, application streaming or virtualization).

Because fhe focus of RES PowerFuse is on the user and his or her workspace, the user's profile data and settiings are contained in a database independent of the operating system. When RES PowerFuse is managing the Windows environment, each user's "desktop" and related "workspace" variables are thus self-contained and dynamically self-provisioned based on the parameters defined in each user's settings. As a result, true seamless roaming is entirely possible with RES PowerFuse without encountering typical technical hurdles associated with corrupted profiles, hanging registry handles, extensive logon/logoff times, hardware dependencies, etc.

In the left sidebar of this screen you should see a little thumbnail for one of their white papers. If you click on that thumbnail (registration is required), you'll get linked to a page on the RES web site where you can download more information. The papers are well written and worth a minute or two of your time.
