Server 2008 Security Guide (Pre-release Edition) Available

Now that's fast! I got an email last week announcing the availability of the Server 2008 Security Guide. I've been a fan of each of the security guides, whether for XP, Vista, Office, or Server 2003. Each of them are excellently written and are one of the few places where you'll learn not only how to secure your network, but also what.

The Server 2008 Security Guide is now available, though I believe for only limited release. According to the message I received, included with it are...

• Windows Server 2008 Security Guide - Beta The document introduces the processes, tools, and best practice information that you can use to harden computers running Windows Server 2008. We would like your feedback on content, structure, organization and presentation in the guide.

• Appendix A: Security Group Policy Settings - Beta
This document provides a comprehensive technical reference that explains what every prescribed security setting in the Windows Server 2008 Security Guide does, and provides recommended configurations.

• Windows Server 2008 Security Guide Settings - Beta
This workbook introduces the processes, tools, and best practice information that you can use to harden computers running Windows Server 2008. We would like your feedback on the default, Enterprise Client (EC) and Specialized Security-Limited Functionality (SSLF) setting prescriptions in the workbook.

• Windows Server 2008 Attack Surface Reference - Beta
This workbook lists the changes introduced as server roles are installed on computers running Windows Server 2008.

• How To Use the GPOAccelerator - Beta
This document provides details about using the GPOAccelerator tool.

• WSSG-GPOAccelerator v3 - Beta.msi
The .msi file provides the key tool for the guidance that enables you to automatically create all the Group Policy objects (GPOs) you need to apply the security guidance.
