Only 24 New Group Policies in Server 2008 that Only Work in Server 2008

Jeremy Moskowitz wrote in his blog a while ago that Microsoft had finally updated their spreadsheet that lists each and every Group Policy setting. So, I decided today to take a look at that very spreadsheet.

What I found was interesting. Though there are quite a few new group policy settings as compared with what we got back in Server 2003, there are only 24 new settings that only work on Server 2008. That means that of all the new GP settings we're getting with the new O/S, we can expect nearly all of them to be down-level compatible. This is nice.

These policies are all found in GroupPolicy-Server.admx, MMCSnapIns2.admx, PswdSync.admx, ServerManager.admx, Snis.admx, and TerminalServer-Server.admx:

Allow asynchronous user Group Policy processing when logging on through Terminal Services
Group Policy Management Editor
Group Policy Starter GPO Editor
Set the number of retries for Password sync Servers
Set the retry interval for Password sync Servers
Turn On Extensive logging for Password sync Servers
Turn on the Windows to NIS password sync for migrated users for Password sync Servers
Configure the refresh interval for Server Manager
Do not display Initial Configuration Tasks window automatically at logon
Do not display Server Manager automatically at logon
Set update interval for NIS subordinate servers
Turn on extensive logging for domain controllers running Server for NIS
Allow remote start of unlisted programs
Allow time zone redirection
Always show desktop on connection
Do not allow clipboard redirection
Redirect only the default client printer
