RES Software & Lengthy Logon Times
Logon times have always been a pain in Windows. Most of the admin I talk to tell me their average logon times average between 30 and 45 seconds and sometimes much longer. In industries like health care and retail where logon times directly impact the ability to service the customer this isn’t acceptable at all. Administrators don’t use roaming profiles because of their corruption problems and the nature of Windows roaming profiles (which aren’t all that great).
With RES Software being one of our site sponsors right now, I’ve been taking a look at their PowerFuse product a little lately. With it you can reduce those logon times and corrupted profiles.
PowerFuse doesn’t use typical windows logon scripts, policies, or roaming profiles. Its Configuration Management component instead…
…pulls this information from a separate database, which has the tendency to decrease overall logon times. Using Configuration Management you can also configure windows variables such as mapped resources, registry settings, connected printers, and mail configurations.
One of the neat results of their database driven profile management is that it really enables the “roaming” in roaming profiles. No matter what PC or device the user logs into their user settings will be configured based on the information in the PowerFuse database.
What makes PowerFuse stand out from traditional desktop management products is that PowerFuse centers its configurations on the user and the user’s workspace. PowerFuse focuses on virtualized user workspace management and not on the physical devices. So it doesn’t matter from where the user logs in.
