If You're Upgrading to VMware's Server RC2 on Red Hat Linux, Don't Forget...

Three things:

  • First, verify your build number.  The build number for RC2 is 110949.  The build number for RC1 was 101586.  You can determine the installed version of VMware Server with the command /usr/bin/vmware -v.
  • Next, remove RC1.  If you're doing this on Red Hat, use the command rpm -e VMware-server-2.0.0-101586.  Consult the documentation for other non-RPM methods.
  • Install RC2 with the command rpm -iv VMware-server-2.0.0-110949.i386.rpm (for the x86 version).
  • Finally, don't forget to disable debugging.  Not doing this will result in excessively slow VM performance.  The instructions to do this are here.

Enjoy!  I've upgraded mine this morning and so far the upgrade has gone of swimmingly.
