VMware's Recent Update Problem Getting Worse

From what I'm reading over at Virtualization.info, the VMware expiry problem posted here this morning is getting worse for some environments.

First, read this post: http://www.virtualization.info/2008/08/vmware-mistake-shuts-down-thousands-of.html

Make sure to read Alessandro's updates at the bottom. VMware's knowledgebase is apparently down right now, probably having crashed due to overload. So, he posts the original knowledgebase article there giving you info on what happened.

In an update to his post he notes that ESX Update 2 might not be the only one with this problem. From the comments to his posting:

Reports of problems with ESX 3.5 U1 with the following patches applied.
  • ESX350-200806201-UG
  • ESX350-200806202-UG
  • ESX350-200806217-UG
