Useful Microsoft KB Articles on Hyper-V

Over at his blog this week Arlindo includes a list of three KB articles that you’ll want to look for if you’re considering using Hyper-V:

  • 957006 – This article discusses the support policy for running Microsoft server software in the supported virtualization environments.
  • 953828 – Hotfix to run NLB (Network Load Balancing) inside Hyper-V Virtual Machines.
  • 950792 – Issues enabling the Hyper-V role on HP Proliant Servers.

To that list I’d like to add a few more of my own:

  • 950050 – Hyper-V RTM upgrade code.  You must first install this before you do anything with Hyper-V.
  • 951308 – Fix for Hyper-V in a clustered environment.
  • 951636 – Multi-language pack.
  • 952627 – Hyper-V Management Tools for Windows Vista SP1.

If this level of patching concerns you, remember that Hyper-V is still a v1.0 release.  So it is fully expected to see this level of add-on patching required for the product.  I myself have completed my first installation of Hyper-V in a production environment about two weeks ago as part of a consulting assignment, and am happy to report that its working remarkably well.
